The Portal Summer Camp was founded with a purpose bigger than summer programming—it was built to create opportunity, healing, and lasting impact.
In 2017, our founder experienced a personal loss when his uncle was tragically killed due to gun violence in a Public Housing community. Instead of letting that moment define the future, he made the decision to turn pain into purpose.
What launched as a two-week summer program in partnership with the Greensboro Housing Authority quickly became something much greater. Due to overwhelming community support and the impact on students, the program was extended for the remainder of the summer—and has successfully operated for more than three years.
Since then, Portal Summer Camp has served youth ages 6–18 by providing a well-rounded experience that goes beyond traditional camps. From visiting Representative Amos quick at the NC State Legislative Building to getting certified in CPR, our program combines academic support, mentorship, and life-changing opportunities designed to build confidence and expand horizons.
Our impact includes:
Academic enrichment and mentorship
College tours and career exposure
CPR certification for youth
Professional development experiences: Providing young men with free 5-piece suits
Personal care services including haircuts and hair styling
Engaging field trips and group activities
Every initiative is designed to pour into our youth—mentally, socially, and emotionally.
This year, we return bigger and better with new programming, a stronger team, and an even greater commitment to the communities we serve. Because for us, this is more than a camp—it’s a movement to create change, one student at a time.
